Blount County criminal cases may be in Alabama or Tennessee. Confirm the state and court; Alabama’s Circuit Clerk and Tennessee’s General Sessions access serve different systems.
Resolve Alabama versus Tennessee first
A Blount County criminal record belongs to a particular state and court. The Alabama and Tennessee routes below are conditional examples, not interchangeable searches. Locate an Alabama case without confusing access with filing
Alabama’s courts identify Just One Look as the case-by-case access service and Alacourt.com as a subscription service for reading trial-court details and images. AlaFile is for electronic filing, not simply searching someone’s criminal case. In Just One Look, choose a name search or use the full case number, then confirm the Blount court and case details.
The access service lists a name search at $9.99 with one case detail included; further case details from that search cost $9.99 each. A case-number search is $9.99 with one detail included. Document images cost $5 for the first 20 pages and $0.50 per page thereafter. Optional lifetime case monitoring is separately priced at $19.99 for a district case or $29.99 for a circuit case. Reading images does not make them certified clerk copies.
Ask the Alabama clerk for the specific public order
Blount’s Alabama Circuit Clerk is at 220 2nd Avenue East, Oneonta, AL 35121. The current main telephone is 205-973-0499, with published hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. The directory identifies extension 3242 for criminal misdemeanors and felonies and extension 3311 for Circuit Criminal. Use the current number rather than an older saved directory.
Provide the case number, defendant, court division and the exact judgment, sentencing order or dismissal required. Ask whether certification is needed and obtain a copy-price and delivery estimate. The reviewed Blount Alabama criminal pages do not establish a local certified-copy tariff or guaranteed processing period. Do not substitute another Alabama county’s copy fees or the office’s divorce-decree charges for a criminal-document quote.
Follow a Tennessee felony beyond its preliminary hearing
Blount Tennessee General Sessions Criminal Court handles misdemeanors and preliminary hearings in felony cases, and its page describes a public-access computer for record searches. The Circuit Criminal division handles felony, misdemeanor and post-conviction matters and also describes a public terminal. If a General Sessions felony matter continued, ask the clerk for the later court and case number.
Keep the General Sessions reference and the later prosecution reference together. The earlier entry helps trace the case but may not show its final outcome. For a misdemeanor actually resolved in General Sessions, request that court’s disposition. The county’s separate online-search page is under Clerk and Master; do not assume that link covers these criminal divisions merely because it is labelled court records.
Use the Tennessee records policy for inspection or copies
The Tennessee Circuit Clerk’s records policy permits oral inspection requests but requires written Form A for copies, submitted in person or by mail to 926 East Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804. It requires proof of Tennessee citizenship using a Tennessee driver’s license or an acceptable alternative ID. If you cannot meet that condition, ask the clerk which lawful access route applies before sending a request.
Inspection is free. The posted policy lists $0.50 per page, plus $5 for certification; labor beyond one hour is $22 per hour. Staff provide an itemized estimate, and prepayment is required above $25. Pickup and prepaid-postage mail delivery are described. Where prompt production is impracticable, the policy provides for a response within seven business days, not guaranteed delivery of every requested record. Confidential material may be redacted.
A statewide history check is a different order
TBI’s public Tennessee-only adult criminal-history check costs $29, does not require fingerprints, and can be requested online or by mail; results are electronic and a valid email is required. It is not an Alabama history or a certified Blount judgment. Follow a requesting employer or licensing agency’s specified product instead of substituting this public name-based check.
For review of your own Alabama history, ALEA lists a $25 request requiring fingerprints, current photo identification and its CHRI application; additional copies are $5 each. Its Alabama Background Check subscription is separately limited to qualifying employers. These products have different eligibility rules and should not be presented as an unrestricted search of anyone’s nationwide history.
Verify the person and the disposition before relying on a result
Compare names with case dates and other available identifiers, and separate each charge from its eventual result. A same-name entry, allegation or preliminary hearing is insufficient to establish a particular person’s conviction. Obtain the actual public order if the docket is ambiguous, and state any remaining identity or outcome uncertainty rather than filling it in.
For an apparent court-data error, keep the case reference and conflicting document and ask the clerk responsible for that file to explain or correct the entry. A history-report discrepancy may also need attention from the state repository. If access is denied, request the specific reason and any public or redacted portion available; neither a paid search nor a copy fee overrides confidentiality.
